Independent Candidate for President
Misteradiant:

Alternatives to Gasoline:
The Bush administration's National Energy Technology Laboratory of the Department of Energy offers this:

Many credible analysts have recently become much more pessimistic about the possibility of finding the huge new reserves needed to meet growing world demand.
Even the most optimistic forecasts suggest that world oil peaking will occur in less than 25 years
.

That means that by 2030, at the latest, the demand for oil will outstrip supply.

In my vision of America, new autos sold after 2015 that are gasoline-powered only (hybrids and diesel okay) will have a 40% tax on them. Everybody say "biodiesel!"

Biodiesel is fuel that runs in diesel motors and is made from plants. When Rudolph Diesel, inventor of the "compression ignition engine," first displayed it to the world in 1898 at the World's Exhibition in Paris, he used peanut oil, the original biodiesel, to run it.

America went to the moon only seven years after Kennedy declared it a challenge. I will create a federal office that will take all cars sold in America off foreign gasoline by 2030. I will challenge the states to invest in biofuel startups. I will challenge American citizens to demand diesel motors in their vehicles and to stop voting for any candidate with even the most remote ties to oil corporations.

The 2015 fines are a start of the legislation to free America from the grip of foreign oil. Legalizing hemp to use as the least expensive plant to grow and turn into biodiesel is another. With innovations by independent American educational institutions and citizens, pressed on by a mandate from the President, we will be free of foreign oil and the death and war it demands. If we can go to the moon in seven years, we can create sustainable energy in 22 years from the time I am elected President.

Hybrid vehicles (gas/electric) will make up no more than 15% of all new cars in America. I do not believe hybrid technology. I do not believe in any technology that uses gasoline. Gasoline comes from foreign soil. By 2011, all new hybrid automobiles sold in the USA will get no less than 50 MPG on the freeway and 30 MPG in the city, for a combined 40 MPG by 2015. I propose a 20% tax on those that don't.

I will make sure that revision of the government's EPA ratings for mileage are carried out in a way that benefits American consumers, not automobile manufacturing and energy corporations.

Funding will be invested for cleaner auto fuel programs such as employer support for employees with electric cars and into making hydrogen power affordable and feasible.

The cost of the Iraq War:
One day at war in Iraq could pay for one year's gasoline consumption for 97,500 Americans, even at today's elevated prices.
(The average American is expected to spend almost $2,000 on gasoline this year.) Source: Consumer Federation of America. The Impact of Rising Prices on Household Gasoline Expenditures. September 2005.

I propose not that we should give gasoline to Americans, but that with the cost saved from leaving Iraq, we invest in making America a nation of self-sufficient energy supply. I challenge America to develop renewable biofuels. The government will spend money investing in people and organizations that are growing and producing alternative fuels for automobiles.

Alternatives for Energy:
The national power grid will get a modern update with alternative renewable energy resources mentioned below.

I will create large wind farms in the west on thousands of miles of lands where nobody lives, where rocky mountains blow almost-constant wind but the heat and desolation keeps people out. We will build wind farms in Arizona, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico and Texas. I'll place a bunch off the coast of Louisiana and use the profits to fund the work to bring more silt from the Mississippi and dirt to build up one thousand square miles of buffer swampland, of which 250 square miles were taken alone by hurricanes last year. New Orleans and it's environs are worth saving.

The government will match 35% of the cost to apply solar and wind technology to run new office buildings completely on renewable energy.

Alternative Energy technology can be sold to the rest of the world to benefit us financially while giving the earth a future that is more utopian and less "Mad Max." The world of Mad Max was unprepared for the last drop of oil. America will be prepared for finite gas and oil resources to finally be exhausted by creating renewable energy sources of wind and sun and water. By becoming the country with technology at the forefront of this inevitable outcome, we will assure the highest standard of living of any nation.

True safety from Middle-Eastern terrorists is to need nothing from the countries that spawn them.

I will work to give farmers a one-time grant to plant windmills on their property and to insure the law assists them in constructing their own windmills. They can maintain them to sell the power to local co-ops and energy concerns, or rent each unit to the local power company.

Alternative Energy, especially the renewable kind like wind, sun and water, do not contribute to Global Warming.
